Slievenashaska and Coomeenatierna Loop – 04 February 2024

Walk into seldomly visited remote and hidden areas of Sneem’s Dunkerron Mountains. Highpoints are the stunning Slievenashashka lake, views into the middle of Iveragh peninsula and Moneyflugh Valley. A rewarding Challenge for our A Walkers

This walk takes us into remote and wild areas of Sneem’s Dunkerron Mountains. Starting and finishing on the Lománagh Loop, it visits the seldomly visited Slievenashaska Lake (aka Fiddle Lake). From here our walk leader Fergal Harrington will take us deep into the mountains as the Dunkerron’s spectacular glaciated geology starts to unveil itself. We’ll continue up the coom wall behind the lake where even more spectacular vistas await.

Climbing the heights of Coomeenatierna, we’ll get our first views of Sneem Village in the distance and be looking down into the valley of Moneyflugh.

Descending from these high points can be tricky so, we’ll take our time descending the shoulder of the mountain to the edge of the forestry area on the Lománagh Loop. We’ll follow a break in the forest until we meet up with the loop trail, which we’ll follow back to our start point.
