In the hillwalking game, timing can be everything and what a difference a week can make. After a period of cold temperatures & snow leading to avalanche warnings in the Reeks, Sneem Walking Club’s A Group postponed their chosen walk for a week. With conditions having improved, the A Group, ably lead by Michael Joe Murphy seized their opportunity to visit the Purple Mountain area in the Eastern Reeks. Their walk took in the three peaks of Purple Mountain 832m, Tomies Mountain 735m and Shehy Mountain 632m with wonderful views of The Gap of Dunloe and the Killarney Lakes. What a fantastic January day they had for their walk. We’ll let the video from Denis Furlong take it from here.
B Group Walk – From Sneem to Beale and Back
The B Group decided to delay the rescheduling of the Strickeen Walk for another day, as a number of the Group who wish to do this walk were unavailable. Notwithstanding, Michele Cooper Fay and Teresa Santapreziosi made the most of their day, enjoying a walk along the Kerry Way from Sneem to Beale Woods and back. It was smiles all the way!
