Description

Moderate to strenuous loop walk initially along the Kerry Way and leading to an ascent of Eagles Hill.

Photod From The Day

Today’s A walk takes us from Coad onto the Kerry Way inland route towards Waterville as it climbs gently and steadily until we reach the windy gap ‘Bearna Gaoithe’. We’ll pause for a while here to take in the views down into Tooreens and the lakes below. Tooreens, however, is for another day and we’ll begin our ascent of Eagles Hill.

Eagles Hill looks tough as it often rises up into the clouds. Rest assured, it is a short, managable and worthwhile challenge and we’ll soon reach its summit at 550m. Hereafter a broad mountain ridge awaits, with views across the Iveragh peninsula which we’ll follow for approx 2km in the direction of Coad Copper mines.

We’ll descend here to the mine entrance and onto a grassy trail that leads us back to the Kerry Way to complete our 4 – 4.5 hour loop.

With all advertised walks please bear in mind that these can change at short notice due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Meeting point for these walks (unless otherwise noted) is outside Dan Murphy’s Bar in Sneem at 10AM. Please ensure that you are registered on the Sneem Walking Club’s Whatsapp Group for updates. Please note that dogs are not allowed on our walks, as we walk on privately owned land with the kind permission of the owners / farmers.
