We will take mini bus transport out to Caherdaniel and start the walk from here. It is likely we will leave a couple of cars at Beale Woods for when we reach our destination.

The walk takes in a mix of grassy and rocky trails as well as quiet boreens. As we set out there are great backwards views of the stunning Derrynane Beach.

The trail will take us through grassy hill towards Coad Mountain with a section of elevation over a rocky track. From Coad we pass Kilchronan Church and take in great views of the Castlecove area as well as the small inlets dotted around the bay. We are under the watchful eye of the Dunkerron Mountains as we continue our journey. At one point we will pass close to the impressive Staigue Fort, a 1,500-year-old wonder standing proudly in its natural amphitheatre. However, this will be a visit for another day but you should catch a glimpse of it as we pass by. We continue along the Kerry Way towards Beale Woods passing under the Dunkerron Mountains to our left and looking over the stunning Kenmare Bay to the right and across to the Beara Peninsula.

There are a couple of longish ascents, reaching a total height of around 200m. There will be an opportunity for a lunch break along the way.
