Description

On this 7.5KM moderately difficult coastal walking loop we will take in fantastic views across the Wild Atlantic to the Skelligs and Puffin Island whilst tackling some moderately challenging ascents and descents on uneven tracks on this waymarked walk.

This beautiful B-walk starts from the car park at the monument (Dullcalla, Ballinskelligs) to the American Liberator, which crashed off the Skelligs in 1944. The start of the walk on a minor road, leads on to tracks and ultimately rougher ground following waymark arrows, through gates, over styles and streams and along the slopes of the Bolus Mountain.

We’ll follow the loop in a clockwise direction so the we’ll approach the old barracks / Mapoleonic Tower from the east. The atlantic panormaic views here are impressive and it’s usually a good spot to take shelter from any wind and have a lunch break.

From here we’ll walk towards the cliffs, where the trail begins its descent. The walk is quite close to the edge, so we will exercise care as we continue our way towards the shoreline.

We’ll continue the loop back to the narrow lane on which we started and on to the car park.

Dogs are not allowed on this walk.

With all advertised walks please bear in mind that these can change at short notice due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
