Blackwater Bridge to Sneem on the Kerry Way – 02 June ’24

Follow the Kerry Way from Blackwater Bridge into Sneem on waymarked trails.

Photos From the Day

From Blackwater Bridge we will follow the waymark signs for the Kerry Way. Sections of the route can get boggy and there are some rocky sections. There is usually a particularly boggy section at Dereenamacken Woods. So, walking boots are essential and it’s recommended to bring a walking pole.

As we head towards Tahilla the track takes us along an old coach road following telegraph poles. Here the trail gains height along Lough Fadda, with views across Coongar Harbour and Drongawn Lough.

We will cross the road at the Tahilla church and continue to follow the Kerry Way which will take us past parts of the dormant 19 th Century Tahilla Village, which in its day was a busy fishing village. Again, parts of this section into Sneem can get boggy but we will get great views at times of the Kenmare River, particularly as we near Parknasilla.

From here we cross the road again going along past Brushwood Studios and through a wooded section, before the trail opens up again as it comes out in Sneem Village by the Chemist shop.

This will be a relaxed easy walk taking in some lovely views along the way.

With all advertised walks please bear in mind that these can change at short notice due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Meeting point for these walks (unless otherwise noted) is outside Dan Murphy’s Bar in Sneem at 10AM. Please ensure that you are registered on the Sneem Walking Club’s Whatsapp Group for updates. Please note that dogs are not allowed on our walks, as we walk on privately owned land with the kind permission of the owners / farmers.
