Allihies Loop and Hungry Hill Walks – 14 May ’23

Both A and B Walks are taking place on the Beara Peninsula. The 7KM loop B Walk near Allihies is easy going and offer great views of the bay. Hungry Hill, the highest of the Caha Mountains at 682m, is the A Walk. It is a challenging and steep 4-5 hours walk.

The Allihies B Walk is now postponed and will be rescheduled to a later date. The Hungry Hill walk is proceeding as planned.

The planned Allihies B Walk start is in the picturesque town of Allihies on the Beara Peninsula. This is about 1 hour 40 minutes drive from Sneem.

The first part of the walk is a coastal loop walk. We will park near to the church and head down the road towards the quay and camp site. The loop follows the coast on an easy trail bringing us round to a road that then leads up to the old copper mine.

We have a choice of trails up to the copper mine, either easy or more challenging. Whilst this is a relatively easy hike the views from this part of the Beara are beautiful.

Terrain is trails and rough tracks, approximately 7 km, which will take 2-3 hours.

The Hungry Hill A Walk is to the top of 682m mountain. It involves a challenging and steep walk with some scrambling. It will take between 4 and 5 hours.

Meet Dan Murphys Sneem at 10 AM. Those meeting the Group in Kenmare should be ready around 10.40 AM.

With all advertised walks please bear in mind that these can change at short notice due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Meeting point for these walks (unless otherwise noted) is outside Dan Murphy’s Bar in Sneem at 10AM. Please ensure that you are registered on the Sneem Walking Club’s Whatsapp Group for updates. Please note that dogs are not allowed on our walks, as we walk on privately owned land with the kind permission of the owners / farmers.
